Our History
The Origins (1943)
Born in 1943 in Fisto, a small village in Val Rendena (Trento), Ferdinando Collini moved to Macerata at the age of 14. There, working in a cutlery shop, he learned the difficult art of knife sharpening. After several years of apprenticeship, he moved to Tortona, where he perfected his sharpening technique and learned the trade of a merchant.
1968: Coltelleria Collini is Born
It was 1968 when Ferdinando Collini, intending to start his own business, arrived in Busto Arsizio. He took over a small but well-established cutlery/hardware store and, with his wife Laura, realized what had always been his dream: having a shop of his own.
After a successful initial period and seeing the increase in work, Ferdinando asked his younger brother Guido to join him. In the years that followed, the company grew in size and experience, guaranteeing customers professional and qualified service.
In 1996, the two brothers decided to split the company to better differentiate the two sectors and to integrate their respective children into the business. Ferdinando and his children Rudy and Deborah, who had already been working in the shop for some years, took the reins of the cutlery/household sector.
Physical Expansion and the Team
In 2006, the physical activity in Busto expanded with the opening of a second shop, adjacent to the historic one. This space is entirely dedicated to knives, LED flashlights, swords, and movie products, where enthusiasts can view and choose from thousands of products from all over the world.
With the growth of the company, four collaborators joined Coltelleria Collini over the years: Davide, Renzo, Joanna, and Alessia.
Between 2020 and 2021, in the midst of the lockdown due to the pandemic, Coltelleria Collini decided to invest in its physical presence by enlarging and completely redeveloping the historic shop dedicated to kitchenware, scissors, pastry accessories, and gift items.
Digital Pioneers in Italy
In 1999, Rudy Collini began developing the website www.coltelleriacollini.it, which officially went online on February 12, 2000.
It was the first website in Italy dedicated to the online sale of knives, swords, cutting tools, and household items.
In October 2018, Coltelleria Collini celebrated 50 years of activity (1968-2018) and was officially recognized by the Lombardy Region as a "Historic Shop" (Negozio Storico).
From there, constant development followed, including the launch of the first Italian forum dedicated to blades in 2002, which grew to a community of nearly 50,000 enthusiasts. The website, besides increasing sales by reaching customers across Italy and worldwide, is also a crucial showcase that has brought customers from everywhere to both departments of our physical shop in Busto Arsizio.
Our digital presence is supported by the daily use of social media, starting in 2008 with our own video productions uploaded to Youtube, followed by Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok. These tools are essential today to keep enthusiasts updated on the latest available news.
International Partnerships: Collini Steel
Thanks to the company's online development, which led Rudy Collini to travel the world, including Japan, Collini Steel was opened in 2016. As a partner of the Japanese company Takefu Steel, we introduced the famous Japanese Sanmai steel to the Italian market, allowing Coltelleria Collini to create exclusive products using these excellent materials.
